En France comme en Allemagne l’intégration culturelle et aussi économique de la Population issue de l’immigration est devenue un objectif central. Le Niveau communal joue un rôle de plus en plus grand dans ce contexte, parce que les communes sont le partenaire décisif dans les différentes formes de coopération entre l’état et des collecttivités locales en matière d’intégration. En outre, la commune est dans les deux pays avant tout „l’atelier“ où se réalisent et se pratiquent les différentes approches et le laboratoire où on peut essayer de nouvelles voies innovatrices.
C’est pourquoi un projet de recherche commun de l’Institut Franco-Allemand et de la Fondation Wüstenrot a eu comme objectif d’analyser les interactions du développement urbain et de l’intégration des jeunes dans le contexte du processus de ségrégation sociale et spatiale, dans une comparaison franco-allemande.
Les expériences se trouvent documenté dans la présente publication bilingue. Il vise à permettre à d’autres communes de s’enrichir de l’expérience de l’autre pays pour la réalisation de leurs propres projets.
Ce projet de recherche est une contribution supplémentaire à l’initiative commune de l’institut Franco-Allemand et de la Fondation Wüstenrot, pour faciliter et promouvoir le dialogue entre les communes en Allemagne et en France, dans le cadre de missions et thèmes spécifiques.

In 1984, Sister Mildred R. Barker reflected critically on the popularity of Shaker designs, emphasizing the philosophy at the core of Shaker artifacts: “That’s the religion.” Shakers expressed faith through labor as well as in dance, song, and documentation of personal visions, known as gift drawings. These images show how their makers understood their relationship to God and the larger Shaker community. Despite the Society’s decline in the 20th century, their unique perspective and rich material culture continued to attract creatives, collectors, and scholars, fueling what has been coined as “Shaker fever” and sparking
both enthusiasm and criticism. In a world facing the consequences of global political upheaval, generations of mass consumerism, and extractive resource policies, the Shakers’ dramatically different visions of belief, community, and capitalism represent an alternative history of the 19th and 20th centuries, which offers lessons for the future. What does it mean to build today for tomorrow?
